Prepare for a springtime shower of Plasterkatz shows! We will be playing at all corners of the bay every weekend in May. (hey, that rhymes!)

First, we are extremely excited to be participating in the 3rd annual Karfluki Music Festival in beautiful Auburn, California. It is the 20th anniversary celebration for the seminal Celtic Rock group Tempest and they have asked us to kick off the second day of the festival on Sunday May 4th. For more line up and ticket information check out the website:

http://www.karflukifest.com

If you are having any sticker shock about the ticket price, we have a great option for you! The festival is in need of volunteers and our very own Bryn Tucker is in charge of facilitating that. (Who could ask for a better boss?) All they ask is 4 hours of work and then you can enjoy the whole day! Plus food and volunteer beer! We'll be there the whole time volunteering ourselves, so come on out and spend the weekend with your favorite band. Just PM me with your interest and we'll hit you back with the skinny.
Be ye ready for a night of piratical adventure with ye olde Plasterkatz, mateys?

On Friday night, March 21st, sail to the Verdi Club at 2424 Mariposa Street in San Francisco for an evening of music, raffles, and piratical fun, as Pirates 4 Children presents the 1st Annual Pirates Ball and Silent Auction!

Just imagine, for a mere $30, not only do you get an evening of music from Plasterkatz, as well as local nautical musician Skip Henderson and the Starboard Watch, but you get to meet some of the actors from Pirates of the Caribbean (no, Johnny won't be there...) join in a silent auction, and, best of all, benefit the Children's Hospital and Research Center of Oakland!

Really, people... think of the children.

So pull yer pirate duds from the treasure chest, grab yer parrot, shiver yer timbers, and set a course for the Verdi Club at 8pm March 21st for what's sure to be the first of many great pirate balls!

Don't forget, tomorrow night you should come down to the Stork Club at 2330 Telegraph Avenue in Oakland to join Plasterkatz and a whole club full of friends to celebrate the Festival of Fans!

Here's what the creators of this milestone event have to say about it:

Have you ever asked yourself why there aren't enough events around that encourage people to sing through fans?

Well, now's your chance... extra points for wearing costumes and recreating the poster scene!

http://www.storkcluboakland.com/Flyers/2008/SE_festival%20of%20FANS_2008.html

The Festival of Fans was originally conceived as an epic music festival that would take place at the Altamont Pass among the windmills and gigantic fans. The bill was going to be filled by bands created from the lists of throwaway band names that bands generate when they are trying to name their band. "Rollercoaster Kitty," "Hippy Ice Cream Truck," and "The Polyester Foresters" are examples of potential openers. Eventually, the idea morphed into a Sunday BBQ at the Stork Club with real bands. We will celebrate things fantastic, like a bunch of fanatics. There will be fan dancing, autograph signing, and performers will be encouraged to sing through the spinning blades of a fan. It is going to be awesome!

Starring:
4pm - The Happy Clams
5pm - October Allied
6pm - The Lemmies
7pm - The Bleu Canadians
8pm - Plasterkatz
9pm - The Clarences
10pm - Rollercoaster Summer
11pm - Brad Electro
12am - Mike Glendinning

DJ Mole will be spinning throughout the evening

So come on down and join us! $7 at the door! It's a holiday weekend! So Sunday is another Saturday!

See you there!

In all honesty, from a far east bay kind of person (when I'm writing my graffiti I write "925" and "94513" and "B-Town"), and since the bridge is closing Friday night, apparently before all the music and such starts up, I want to figure out if there's a BART station anywhere near Geary, or if anyone there might have a vehicle available to pick up one good looking guy, and maybe (maybe) his wife or friends from BART, and even hitch us a ride back to BART after the show (Hell, it's payday, so we could even get a taxi).

When I heard on the news that it might take 1.5 hours to get to the Golden Gate Bridge, or the San Mateo Bridge, I pooped my pants. Started having 2nd thoughts about getting all the way out to SF with no way back.

So....a shout out to all my SF people - is BART even close to Geary?

I know a bunch of you are going to be at Burning Man this year, but for those of you who aren't, and are looking for something REALLY HOT to do, why don't you come to Irelands 32 on Friday, August 31, for some good-time comfort music, as well as the debut of some friends of ours!

To start the night off, at 9 p.m., witness the premiere of Suboptimal! They're friends with whom most of you are already familiar (the Seeman brothers, Russ on rhythm guitar, Ben on bass, and Ray Balaian on lead guitar) who impressed me with their solid beats and impressive interpretations of some modern classics, as well as Russ's unique songwriting skills, which I suspect will astound the hell out of you.

Once they've warmed you up, it's time for Plasterkatz to come in and continue the grooves, with the stuff you love to dance to, some new work-ups on some original songs, and some covers that might surprise you.

Turns out one of them operates a pirate radio station in Wales and borrowed my copy to take back with him to put it on the air. Unfortunately, he's incredibly low tech and doesn't have an internet feed yet. Another girl was completely in love with "The Cukoo" and Megan's oohs and ahhs are now her cell phone ring tone, which is going back to southern switzerland with her. And my friend Mary is dead set on coming out and seeing a show in the near future, whether I'm back by then or not.

Some of you may have heard about this. Others might have no idea what I'm talking about. Regardless, this is an event that you shouldn't miss. Each member of Plasterkatz is involved in this production with their ukulele-driven side projects.

From the lips of our glorious uke leader, Kelly McCubbin, the Ukulele Apocalypse:

*****************************************************************************************

For the last time, the Ukulele Apocalypse presents...

"The Rise and Fall of Uke-y Stardust and the Spiders From Mars"

About a year ago I had a stupid idea, "We should," I thought, "get as many ukulele players as we could to play one seminal classic rock album from beginning to end." There was no question which record it should be.

This stupid idea exploded. Bands were formed, friends were made, projects grew out of projects and eventually, the whole thing had gained a life of its own. In this last year we've performed this show 4 times, "Purple Rain - When Ukes Cry", "Everything's a Dollar in this Box - Tom Waits on Cheap Instruments", "Plinkity Pleasures 1 and 2" and about a zillion other gigs all around the Bay Area.

And now it's time to move on, but not without propping the Starman up one last time to say goodbye.

So here it is...
The show that started it all, from the creators of "Purple Rain - When Ukes Cry". It's an entire evening of David Bowie, culminating in his glam rock masterpiece, from beginning to end, on ukulele.

You heard us.

Put on your green bowler hats and tune in your UHF stations, because at the end of the March rainbow, there’s a whole pot o’ Plasterkatz!

Firstly: Next Tuesday March 13th we will be taping an episode of the Vinnie Langdon show for Vacaville public access! This is the big time, baby! We will be hanging out at the Creekside Bar & Grill at 555 Main Street in Vacaville from 6-10pm. We can have a live studio audience (that’s you) so come on down and have a drink. We are taping early so try to show up as close to 6pm as you can.

Secondly: We will be doing a very special Plasterkatz performance on St. Patrick’s Day at Irelands 32! In addition to your favorite P-Katz songs, we’ve also worked up a bunch of Irish music (bastardized by the Plasterkatz groove machine, of course) exclusively for this show, to celebrate the life of that snake-banishing drunkard! We will begin around 9pm and play till the gutters run green with food-colored Budweiser! Arrive early because the bar will be packed.

Here’s the condensed version for the Reader’s Digest crowd:

Vinnie Langdon Show!
Tuesday March 13th
6-10pm
@ the Creekside Bar & Grill
555 Main St.
Vacaville CA, 95688
FREE SHOW!

Plasterkatz!
Saturday March 17th (St. Patrick’s Day!)
9pm
@ Irelands 32
3920 Geary blvd. (@ 3rd Ave)
San Francisco, CA 94118
FREE SHOW!!!!

Now that our new album is out, we're getting ready to start spreading the love of PK to the rest of the world, which involves, of course, radio stations, and usually a short biography of the band is required with the submission.

Well, it sure would be nice to have someone write a few words that aren't from the perspective of a bandmember; someone who can write an objective summary that doesn't sound like one of us pretending we're standing on the outside looking in.

If we could find someone who would be willing to write up a simple bio that we could use, and that could possibly become part of our press packet, that would rock.

Any writers out there feel like taking on the task? If so, contact me here or through private message.
I haven't taken much video with my camera before, so I learned something that night-- the factory settings are for fairly crappy video quality, although the sound is surprisingly good. I'm going to have to experiment to find a decent balance between video quality and file size.

A rock opera based on this?
(I think that the whole band has done the research already)

The "Stoned Ape" theory of human evolution

Perhaps the most intriguing of Terence McKenna's theories and observations is his explanation for the origin of the human mind and culture. McKenna theorizes that as the North African jungles receded toward the end of the most recent ice age, giving way to grasslands, a branch of our tree-dwelling primate ancestors left the branches and took up a life out in the open—following around herds of ungulates, nibbling what they could along the way.

Among the new items in their diet were psilocybin-containing mushrooms growing in the dung of these ungulate herds. The psilocybin -- which in small doses provides an increased visual acuity, in slightly larger doses a physical sexual arousal and in still larger doses full-on ecstatic hallucinations and glossolalia -- gave evolutionary advantages including the rearing of off-spring to reproductive age amongst those tribes who partook of it. The changes caused by the introduction of this drug to the primate diet were many—McKenna theorizes, for instance, that synesthesia (the blurring of boundaries between the senses) caused by psilocybin led to the development of spoken language: the ability to form pictures in another person's mind through the use of vocal sounds.

About 12,000 years ago, further climate changes removed the mushroom from the human diet, resulting in a new set of profound changes in our species as we reverted to pre-mushroomed and brutal primate social structures that had been modified and/or repressed by frequent consumption of psilocybin.

McKenna's theory has intuitive strength, but it is necessarily based on a great deal of supposition interpolating between the few fragmentary facts we know about hominid and early human history. In addition, because McKenna (who described himself as "an explorer, not a scientist") was also a proponent of much wilder suppositions, such as his "Timewave Zero" theory, his more reasonable theories are usually disregarded by the very scientists whose informed criticism is crucial for their development.

Yup, that's right, believe it or not, Plasterkatz FINALLY has an album! And on Saturday, September 23rd, you need to come down to our old familiar haunt Irelands 32 at Geary and 3rd Avenue in San Francisco so we can all celebrate the release of the new CD. What's it called, you ask?

PLASTERKATZ: PAST DUE

(After all, it really is, isn't it?)

The night's festivities will start around 9pm, with the reggae/hip-hop melodies of the Bay Area's own Planting Seeds.

Then, to the surprise of probably nobody, Plasterkatz will take the stage and serve up two sets of the stuff that makes you shake your collective booties, as well as some new stuff, including some recently developed covers, and the usual good time that is generally had by all!

And yes, you can buy our new album there as well. As if you hadn't deduced that.

So, come on down to our CD release party! Did I mention there will be cake? Well, there will! WOOHOO!
